Course Content

Purpose The aim of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills needed to be able to plan, deliver and supervise safe and effective group training sessions. During the qualification learners will cover:

  • Anatomy, physiology and nutrition, and how they relate to exercise and fitness
  • Health and safety in the group training environment.
  • The components and principles of fitness
  • The skills to support exercise adherence and a healthy lifestyle
  • The skills to plan, instruct and supervise safe and effective group training sessions.
  • Professionalism for group training
  • Personal and professional development
  • Delivering exceptional customer service

Add-On Version (all units except Core Units of Theory Level 2)

Study Format

Complete pre-training theory modules online then attend 1 Assessment Day arranged with your tutor.

Pre-requisites for taking this course

  • Experience of group training classes is highly recommended
  • The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential; therefore, a degree of physical fitness is necessary
  • There is also an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basic skills in communication pitched at level 2

    This course needs more face to face training definitely – too much online study. Being sent mock exam papers helped significantly though.

    I thought the online material was very well done, making it easy to understand and learn. I do feel that more face to face training days are needed. One day to learn everything that is needed is a bit of a push for those that have no previous experience. However it was a really fun day and I’m very pleased to finally have my qualification!

    I started the course in August and had completed the online learning modules pretty early on. As per the course details the, training day and assessment day was moved to the right twice unfortunately by a few months. I understand that people live different lives but maybe a deadline is required to complete the online training so these dates do not change. People then have a date to work for. More face to face is required for those especially that have never taught in fitness before, this is so to get the best out of the Fit Trg Instructors for the benefit of the course personnel.

    Good course, but more classroom and teaching time is needed maybe think about adding another day to the course. More face to face training rather than online

    I felt that the course provided lots of useful information on the online sections and gave me lots of new and important knowledge. However, I would have enjoyed a little more guidance and input from an actual person rather than just relying on all the online segments for the majority of the course.

    Great support through email and at training day. Ben is a good tutor and obviously puts the group at ease. I felt that I still had quite a way to go before being able to teach however feedback from the group and Ben has helped me leave with confidence. The LAP booklet and online modules were very time consuming, more information on how long this might take prior to the start of the course would have been helping.
